On 6 July 2026, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will host a public hearing entitled “The Path to the Digital Euro: Shaping Policy Choices for Successful Implementation”. The online event will bring together policymakers, central bank representatives, international institutions, business organisations, consumer groups and worker representatives to discuss the key policy and design choices that will determine the successful introduction of the digital euro.

EuroCommerce will be represented by Atze Faas, Adviser for Payments, who will participate in the stakeholder panel on “Priorities and Expectations of Citizens, Workers and Businesses.” During the discussion, he will share the retail and wholesale sector’s perspective on the opportunities and challenges linked to the digital euro and highlight the conditions needed to ensure that any future digital euro delivers value for merchants, consumers and the broader payments ecosystem.
