The European commerce sector is one of Europe’s largest employers, yet many individuals continue to face barriers to entering and progressing within the labour market. Many people – such as refugees and immigrants, younger and older workers, and inactive populations – continue to face barriers to joining the workforce.
To address these challenges, EuroCommerce and UNI Europa have launched DIALOGUE4INCLUSION, a new initiative co‑funded by the European Union to promote inclusive employment through structured and effective social dialogue. The project is part of the Social Dialogue Work Programme 2026–2027.
A joint commitment to inclusive employment
The project is designed to equip the sector with practical tools that support companies and workers in creating workplaces where diversity is valued and barriers to participation are reduced.
A core element of the initiative is its focus on raising awareness of the challenges faced by refugees and migrants, younger and older workers, and inactive populations. By identifying and sharing effective practices from across EU Member States, the project strengthens the capacity of social partners to advance inclusive workplace strategies. This approach ensures that both employers and trade unions are better prepared to support equitable access to employment and long‑term workforce participation.
A central outcome of the project will be a Good Practices Catalogue, showcasing successful initiatives from across EU Member States. This will be complemented by a model mentoring programme, designed to support the integration of refugees, migrants, young and older workers, and inactive populations into the commerce workforce. Together, these tools will help social partners translate dialogue into concrete action.
