Job Description

EuroCommerce is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our advocacy and political affairs efforts. The Director will focus on external engagement with the European Parliament and other stakeholders, including federations and non-governmental organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and lead the development and implementation of advocacy strategies to effectively represent EuroCommerce’s interests within the European Parliament and other EU institutions.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), parliamentary committees and secretariat, and relevant stakeholders (other EU institutions & bodies, stakeholder organisations).
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and policy developments across multiple topics, such as payments, food supply chain, Single Market, sustainability, product legislation, consumer protection and competitiveness in cooperation with EuroCommerce’s relevant policy leads.
  • Provide strategic advice, including messaging, to EuroCommerce’s leadership on political affairs and advocacy initiatives. Support/ coordinate the drafting of speeches, and briefings for the EuroCommerce leadership and other EuroCommerce’s external outreach activities.
  • Represent EuroCommerce in meetings, conferences, and public events to promote the organization’s positions.
  • Work closely with / provide effective support to EuroCommerce’s policy leads and communication team;
  • Manage and mentor a team member, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 10 years of working experience in the EU Affairs ecosystem
  • An extensive senior-level network across EU institutions and stakeholders
  • Perfect command of English, proficiency in other EU languages is a plus.
  • Strong political acumen
  • Excellent knowledge of the European Parliament, gained through direct internal experience within the institution/Proven experience working with MEPs and parliamentary committees.
  • Ability to work on multiple policy topics simultaneously and navigate various parliamentary committees.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong drafting skills and ability to create/contribute effective “messaging” and communicate effectively to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain networks with stakeholders, including federations and NGOs.
  • Proactive ; energetic and enterprising; ability to work closely with others (colleagues, members, stakeholders); values teamwork
  • Leadership experience with the capability to manage and develop team members.
