The European Commission has launched a Code of Conduct to encourage environmentally and socially sustainable practices among food manufacturers and retailers. It comes as one of the first deliverables of the Farm to Fork Strategy which aims to improve the overall sustainability of the European food system.

EuroCommerce was privileged to be part of the co-creation process of the code alongside the European Commission, NGOs and other agri-food chain actors. Retail & wholesale is the largest private employer in the EU, accounting for nearly 26 million jobs, and the sector takes its’ responsibilities very seriously, aiming to show leadership in the transition towards more sustainable food. EuroCommerce and not less than 12 of its member companies are among the first signatories to the Code by making strong commitments in the areas of healthier choices, product transparency, eliminating waste and climate impact.

Our Members' Commitments

We cannot do anything else but be ambitious here. I strongly believe that we need every actor in the value chain for the transformation of the food system to be effective. We embrace the initiative of the Code and encourage other companies in the middle part of the European food supply chain to join, in order to drive global change.
