Adviser Food Policy & Sustainability

Key responsibilities

The Adviser is part of the Product Policy & Sustainability team to support our policy and advocacy activities on the fascinating world of Food Policy, including Food Waste, Food Safety and Quality, labelling, Animal Welfare and much more.

• Managing the activities of the Food Policy Committee: Together with members, define priorities, monitor and report on policy & legislative developments in EU Food Policy, align and report on advocacy activities
• Consensus building: formulate policy recommendations and positions on priority issues with members, seek consensus among members to pro-actively contributing to the sector’s approach and promoting good practice on Food dossiers
• Lead advocacy and communications activities on the basis of agreed positions; identify and seize opportunities to promote our sector narrative; support communication activities -e.g. social media; organisation of dedicated events with partner organisations and relevant stakeholders
• External representation and stakeholder relations: represent the sector in Commission consultative bodies, develop constructive working relationships with EU institutions, other relevant business stakeholders and NGOs, and ensure representation in relevant EU stakeholder committees
• Internal coordination: with EuroCommerce colleagues on horizontal and other cross-cutting files

Your profile

• A university degree in Political Sciences, Law, Economics, Food Science, or another natural science - other relevant degree.
• A minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on work experience in a similar, relevant role in EU Public Affairs, preferably in a trade association, consultancy or other organisation working on related topics.
• Excellent understanding of the working of the EU institutions and proven track record of engaging in the EU decision-making processes and with EU institutions
• A keen interest in / knowledge of Food Policy, also including agricultural matters such as organics and animal welfare, and sustainability policies;
• Excellent Communication skills in spoken and written English; Knowledge of additional European language(s) is an asset;
• A team worker, with a sense of responsibility and initiative, excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines;
• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of developing robust working relationships with EuroCommerce members and stakeholders.
